How to Use Ashwagandha Powder

You've done the research and decided that Ashwagandha is an herb that you would like to experiment with. Understandable considering it's long list of reported benefits coupled with the modern era's unprecedented amount of stress. So here we are - bag of powder in hand - now what? 

If you've been looking for recipes that layer adaptogens and use herbs and roots in more than coffee, then this is the post for you.

Let's start with the most familiar, but make it extra...

Ashwagandha Latte with Milk Foam Flower and without milk

Ashwagandha Latte

Makes 2 Lattes or 1 Giant Latte

  • 1 tsp Tulsi Leaf (or 1/2 tsp Powder)
  • 1/2 tsp Ashwagandha Powder
  • Cardamom (2-4 pods or Powder to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp Passionflower Leaf (for restful sleep at night)
  • 1 tsp Gotu Kola Leaf (for relieving midday stress)
  • 1-1.5 cups water
  • 1-1.5 cups milk
  • 1 tsp honey

Mix all ingredients together and add to a tea ball, teapot, or large mixing bowl. Boil 1-1.5 cups of water and pour over dry mix. Steep for 15-20 minutes.

In a small saucepan warm 1-1.5 cups of milk. Remove from heat when the top is foaming and it is heated, not boiling. 

Strain water and herbal blend, mix into warmed milk, pour into individual mugs and add honey to taste.

No Milk? Use 2-3 cups of water & add Island Time Creamer to the mugs before pouring over hot Ashwagandha tea.

What does it taste like?

Slightly sweet and herbal cardamom milk.

Peanut Butter Ashwagandha Banana Chocolate Smoothie with ingredients in background

Ashwagandha Peanut Butter Boost Smoothie

Makes 1-2 servings

  • 2 large bananas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 soaked dates
  • 2 Tbsp peanut butter
  • 2 cups (almond) milk
  • 1 tsp Ashwagandha
  • 1/2 tsp Eleuthero
  • 1 tsp Cordyceps
  • 2 tsp cocoa powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla powder (optional)
  • 2 scoops protein powder of choice (optional)
  • 1 scoop of ice (optional)

Add bananas, dates, peanut butter, powders, then milk to a blender and blend until smooth, about 1 minute.

Low pantry tip: Use 1-2 scoops of Vanilla Warrior in place of any or all of these specialty ingredients for extra creaminess & boost.

What does it taste like?

Peanut Butter & Banana with an optional splash of chocolate.

Ashwagandha Pumpkin Spice Pancake Recipe

Makes 5-8 pancakes

  • 1 cup flour 
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla powder or extract
  • 1Tbsp Pumpkin Spice (Great DIY Recipe Here)
  • 1 Tbsp Ashwagandha Powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • enough butter for the pan or griddle

Mix the dry ingredients together, add the egg & milk. Stir together briskly, leaving clumps.

Heat pan or griddle over medium, add butter, and add batter. Cook and flip until cooked to liking. 

These pancakes are a next level basic addition to your brunch rotation.

Low Pantry Tip: substitute milk or specialty powders for Self-Witnessing Roots + water

Chicken Bone Broth Ashwagandha Fresh Thyme and Garlic

Simple Ashwagandha Bone Broth

Makes 4-6 servings

  • 1 chicken carcass
  • 2 onions, quartered
  • 1 head of garlic, peeled
  • 2 tsp Herbs de Provence
  • 3 Tbsp Ashwagandha Powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2-3 bay leaves
  • 2 sprigs of fresh thyme (optional)
  • Pepper to taste
  • 6 cups of water

Add all ingredients to a large pot or instant pot. 

Stovetop: Bring to boil, then simmer for 8-12 hours

Instant Pot: Pressure Cook for 120 minutes, then slow release for at least 30 minutes (remove some water if it's over the 2/3 line)

Strain after cooking and use immediately or store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
